Swollen Lymph Nodes (Lymphadenopathy)

Lymphadenopathy is a term meaning “disease of the lymph nodes.” It is, however, almost synonymously used with “swollen/enlarged lymph nodes”. It could be due to infection, auto-immune disease, or malignancy.

Swine Flu

Swine influenza virus is common throughout pig populations worldwide. Transmission of the virus from pigs to humans is not common and does not always lead to human influenza, often resulting only in the production of antibodies in the blood. If transmission does cause human influenza, it is called zoonotic swine flu. People with regular exposure to pigs are at increased risk of swine flu infection. The meat of an infected animal poses no risk of infection when properly cooked.

Swimmer’s Ear (Otitis externa)

Otitis externa (also known as “External otitis,” and “Swimmer’s ear”) is an inflammation of the outer ear and ear canal. Along with otitis media, external otitis is one of the two human conditions commonly called “earache”. It also occurs in many other species. Inflammation of the skin of the ear canal is the essence of this disorder. The inflammation can be secondary to dermatitis (eczema) only, with no microbial infection, or it can be caused by active bacterial or fungal infection. In either case, but more often with infection, the ear canal skin swells and may become painful and/or tender to touch.

Sweat Rash (Miliaria)

Miliaria (miliaria rubra, sweat rash, heat rash, or prickly heat) is a skin disease marked by small and itchy rashes. Miliaria is a common ailment in hot and humid conditions, such as in the tropics and during the summer season. Although it affects people of all ages, it is especially common in children and infants due to their underdeveloped sweat glands.

Sweat, Excessive

Generalized hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that may be induced by febrile diseases, vigorous exercise, or a hot, humid environment, such as a tropical milieu.
